Do you think my milk is bad…….?
Being sleep deprived as I am today, I forgot to sanitize the parts to my new Medela Breast Pump. I rented a hospital grade Medela pump and bought the kit to go along with it. I somehow skipped over the part where it says to boil the parts for ten minutes right to where it says to wash them with soapy water before use, so that’s all I did.
I used it once and my mother gave my daughter only about 1.5 ounces of BM in a bottle while I was at the store.
After pumping twice tonight while my daughter was asleep, I have 2.5 of precious milk in the fridge. Should I throw it away b/c I didn’t sanitize the parts? Of course I am boiling them now. What do you think?
I was just wondering if maybe the milk is bad b/c of some chemicals on the plastic or something that are removed during the boiling procedure….any thoughts on that?

Oh god sweetie, don’t sweat it. It will be fine. Breast milk is liquid gold, don’t throw it away, it will be fine. I did not sterilize anything for my youngest who is now 13 months. She wouldn’t drink from a bottle anyway but lord knows, I jolly well tried. Even from 6 months I didn’t boil anything because they will only start picking stuff up off the floor or anywhere else their little arms can reach and put it in their mouths anyway. Warm soapy water is just fine and just make sure that everything is rinsed properly as I don’t think I’d like a soapy taste to my milk. Boiling can be very time consuming as you have other more important things to do like catching up on lost sleep when bub is down or sitting down relaxing when you can. Just relax and enjoy motherhood and remember that your baby will be fine. All the best.
