Dorm Refrigerators Best Buy Questions
Is there a way to actually eat healthy on campus?
So I live in a dorm on my campus and day after day I watch myself pig out at the all you can eat cafeteria. Does anyone have any suggestions for what I should eat when the dinner’s consist of pizza, greasy chicken, french fries, deli meats, starchy vegetables and other unhealthy food choices. Should I just skip the meal plan and just buy my own groceries?
Also what food is best to buy at the local grocery that will be able to be stored in a dorm room- considering I own a VERY little refrigerator and even less freezer space. I have been thinking about becoming a vegetarian, but I honestly dont want to be limited to fruits and raw vegetables. Recommend any healthy snacks?
for financial reasons i was not able to maintain a meal plan in college. i bought all groceries if i wanted to eat. there were lots of peanut butter sandwiches (no fridge, no jelly) and ramen noodles of course.
i used to buy those suddenly salads. with a microwave or hotplate you can work those meals quite nicely. i didn’t even have a fridge to use. the day you shop or when you have time to stop by the store you can buy a tiny amount of meat to fix spaghetti or the like. with a fridge you can do so much more than i ever did. you can get microwavable meals that contain more of the healthy foods you are looking for.
i guess i should mention though that i always had a miniscule appetite. if you are a big eater you should stick to your meal plan. buying groceries is not cheap.
being vegetarian is not as bad as folks try to make it out to be. vegetarians eat amazing meals with variety and lots of flavor. i think they have more imagination than meat-eaters because they MUST keep their meals lively and nutritious.
What Is The Best Type Of Refrigerator To Buy?
When buying a new refrigerator, the type of fridge to buy comes into play. You would want to set your sights on the right type of fridge so you can maximize food storage and cut back on energy consumption. Moreover, these machines are expected to last for a decade, give and take a couple of years. They are long-term investments.
Types Of Refrigerators To Choose From
The available types you can find today are the freestanding full size fridges, the counter depth refrigerators, the built-in ones, the under counter or compact fridges, top and bottom mount refrigerators, French door fridges and side-by-side refrigerators.
What Is The Best One For You?
If you are looking for a simple fridge that requires minimal space in your kitchen, the top-mount refrigerator is a good choice. It does not cost much and it does not take up a lot of space. Moreover, it does not require a lot of maintenance or repair.
The freezer is located at the top so you have easy access to the food stored in there. The shelves in the bottom compartments are just right for daily food storage needs. If you have average food storage needs, this is a good choice. The bottom-freezer counterpart of these refrigerators is not usually widely available. However, they usually share the same storage benefits as the top-mount ones.
If you are looking for more advanced features such as a water dispenser or an ice maker, a side-by-side refrigerator might just be the thing you need. The freezer area and the main fridge is situated side by side with each other. You can have easy access to the food you have stored.
You would want to use this refrigerator if you have ample space in your kitchen. It tends to occupy a lot of space. This is also quite expensive. Also expect the maintenance and repair charges to be more expensive. Big and bulky boxes of food might not also fit in the side-by-side compartments of this machine.
Go for the compact ones if you are a dorm or an apartment dweller. They are just right for small food storage needs. Many compact machines today are energy efficient.
The cabinet-depth refrigerators are for those who want a seamless look in their kitchen. They have the same depth with the cabinets installed in your home. This is closely related to built-in fridges as they tend to have a seamless look as well. These refrigerators are for those who want their kitchen to look immaculate all the time.
Choose the right type of refrigerator when buying. The wrong fridge can cause space or storage problems in your house.
