They forgot my birthday – again – am I just feeling sorry for myself???
My birthday is on Christmas Day, I don’t really expect much, one year my husband of 16 years never even told me Happy Birthday!!! My feelings were so hurt….This year we drove 3 hours on Christmas day to my sister’s house, my mom and dad were there as well as my brother and his family. As I walked in the door, my sister hands me a refrigerator magnet and says Happy Birthday….That’s it!!! My own mother and father didn’t mention it at all!!!! Today, the day after Christmas I told my husband that I think he should take the kids to the store and buy me a gift…..I feel so selfish – but that is what I do for his birthday, and I always make sure he has a cake, as well as for my three children……..Am I just being a baby – to top it all off, this was a special birthday – I turned 40…..Please give it to me straight…
Happy belated 40th. Mine is Dec 20th and I turned 42 this year. I’ve been lucky to always have mine celebrated, I’m sorry your family overlooks yours.
I suggest you start a new tradition. Pick a different day, of your choosing, and make it the day you celebrate your birthday. Have friends over if you like, get yourself a cake, buy yourself a nice gift, and let your family know that you will be doing this and that you would love to have them celebrate on that day with you, so as not to interfere with everyone’s observance/celebration of xmas.
Don’t accuse or blame, just let folks know that the current holiday is too much compeition and so there can be more partying and fun for everyone, your birthday will be acknowledged on a day separate from it’s actual day.
